The May 2010 Carolwood Limited was a great success! Please send an email to combine@carolwood.org if you'd like to be notified when we schedule the next trip.
The Carolwood Foundation is organizing a rail trip to help preserve an original piece of Disney railroad history.Memorial Day weekend, a limited number of guests will board a private railcar at Union Station in Los Angeles for a trip up the spectacular California coast.
The journey starts on Saturday, May 29, 2010, and features presentations by:
- Disney Legend Bob Gurr
- Noted historian and author Michael Broggie
- Animator John Kimball (son of Disney Legend Ward Kimball)
- Imagineer Ray Spencer, who is currently leading the creation of the Red Car Line at Disney's California Adventure.
A private chef and staff will prepare delicious meals aboard this historic observation car. Upon arrival in Oakland, a private motor coach will take us to the Hilton Hotel in Emeryville, CA. On May 30, guests will take a private motor coach from Emeryville to San Francisco for a tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum.
The Museum has graciously agreed to present a rare public showing of The Great Locomotive Chase in the Fantasia theater. After our visit to the museum, the motor coach will transport guests to Fisherman's Wharf for an evening in San Francisco, or back to our hotel in Emeryville.
The private railcar departs Oakland on Monday morning, May 31st for the return trip to Los Angeles. Along the way, guests will have the opportunity to bid on rare collectibles and autographed items as well as enjoy additional meals and quality time with our guest speakers and fellow travelers.
All proceeds go to support the preservation and display of the original Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad combine car. The Carolwood Foundation is in the process of acquiring and restoring this car so that we can display it next to Walt Disney's Carolwood Barn in Griffith Park. There, it will be open to the public so that the Foundation may teach more about this piece of history that Walt Disney not only personally owned, but declared to be his favorite piece of the Disneyland Railroad.
The cost of the trip is $500 per person and includes transportation and all meals aboard the private railcar. Not included is your hotel stay and meals not served onboard the railcar. The Hilton has offered us a special rate of just $85 per night, plus taxes and fees. Reservations for this amazing trip must be made by April 10, 2010. Space is limited, so we encourage you to book your tickets right away.
Remember, all proceeds from this trip go directly to the preservation of an important piece of Disney history. We hope you'll support this cause and join us for what promises to be a delightful and memorable journey.
